Error Installing Adobe Reader 8.1 to Vista, ‘The temp folder is on a drive that is full’

If you get the error message “The temp folder is on a driver that is full” when installing reader 8.1 to vista then you most likely need to re enable user account controls. The user account controls in Vista are interesting, in fact disabling them can correct some issues when downloading reader.

To get around this error message and get Adobe Reader 8 on your system:

  1. Click Start (or ‘the pearl’ as microsoft calls it) then select control panels
  2. In control panels select User Accounts
  3. In user accounts select “Turn User Account Control On or Off” (it’s at the bottom of the center section)
  4. Make sure there is a check mark in the box next to “Use User Account Controls….” then select ‘OK’
  5. Reboot your machine and install.
