PDF/A and PDF/X Documents

If you open a PDF in Acrobat and go to File > Save As, you may notice that there is more than one option for saving PDF files. What are PDF/A and PDF/X documents?  In simple terms they are standards for creating PDF files. PDF/A is for archiving, while PDF/X is for the print industry. Within these two categories there are subcategories such as PDF/A-1a and PDF/A-1b. For the casual Acrobat user, I wouldn’t worry about these standards, but they are important for those who need to archive PDF files and for people in print production.
